Counselor's Corner

Welcome! We ARE glad you are here!

As a School Counselor, our primary responsibility is to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. We will be conducting monthly guidance lessons in your child’s classroom. We will also have the opportunity to meet with students individually and in small groups based on referrals from the students themselves, teacher referrals, and parent requests. Throughout the year, we will be meeting with parents to discuss community resources, IEP’s, 504’s and on an as-needed basis. we will also be collaborating with teachers and staff, as well as consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all students.

We are here to advocate for all students. If you ever have any questions or concerns, or do not wish to have your child participate in these school counseling services, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We are so excited to work with your children and get to know you throughout the school year!

*Please note school counselors do not provide “therapy” or “traditional counseling”. Referrals for outside counseling services are available for children experiencing grief, divorce, family separation, deployment, or mental health concerns.

Meghan Plautz

My name is Meghan Plautz, and this is my 13th year as a counselor and my 6th year here at Mustang Elementary.  Previously, I was a school counselor in both Kansas and Missouri.  I graduated from Chickasha High School and then received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Rockhurst University and my Master's Degree in Counseling & Guidance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  I have a 4-year-old daughter named Evie, and in my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and traveling.

My biggest passion in life is working with children and helping them to become the best versions of themselves.  As a school counselor, I do this by working with students to achieve social-emotional and academic success through classroom lessons, small groups, and in short, solution-focused individual sessions.  I also help to provide resources for students and families in need and organize the state testing that takes place in the spring.

I look forward to another exciting year working with students and families!
